Presented by Art for Earth, “Blue Awakening” is a multifaceted project designed to ignite a wave of change, stirring the consciousness of our local and global community towards the climate change crisis and the condition of our oceans. This is done through art exhibitions, educational workshops, community clean-ups, and marine life-saving campaigns. At the heart of “Blue Awakening” is the belief that awareness precedes action. By understanding the intricate ways in which plastic pollution suffocates marine life, we can begin to see the ocean not as a distant entity, but as an essential part of our shared home, planet Earth. This project is a testament to the power of youth, creativity, and community in forging a future where the ocean no longer needs awakening, for its protectors, our youth, are wide awake. Join us on this journey of discovery, advocacy, and transformation. “Blue Awakening” is more than a project; it is a movement towards a future where the ocean’s chorus of life is not drowned out by human neglect, but celebrated, protected, and cherished. Together, we can turn the tide on the climate crisis and ensure that our oceans thrive for generations to come.

We are here to extend our deep appreciation for the generous sponsorship from Dunbar Community Center to make this exhibition happen, and the endless efforts from art teachers and parents for the beautiful and meaningful artworks of students. We are also grateful for the strong support from  Ocean Wise, New Art Foundation of Vancouver, IWE Learning Center, Future Art Center, Ivy Golden Union Education Group,  Central Academy of Art-Design, X International Education, Mona Garden Art Studio, and NPC Arts Centre.

Seeking the Gleeful Pony $3,500

By Wenli Yang and Roy Hoh
Print on embossed vinyl, acrylic painting 47 x 47 x 2 inches 2023. This work was inspired by K.J. Bishop's short, weird story, Saving the Gleeful Horse. Pinatas are special for children. In the work, the pony pinata represents children's happiness, which is supposed to be all around them. However, since the environment in which they are growing up has become much crueler than before, it might be hard to find when children suffer in the future. The work alerts us to think about the impact caused by environmental issues.
